off the cuff

I've always been a big fan of the cuff.  Maybe it has to do with loving Wonder Woman's gold cuffs as a little girl growing up, who knows...........but it's a simple, yet bold accessory.

I've gathered up a few of my current favorites.  Check them out...and see what you think!

style crush: gayle spannaus

Meet Gayle Spannaus, J.Crew's style director and the driving force behind the brands catalogs....the ones I notoriously keep like the little magazine wh()re I am. ;)

You say J.Crew, and most will instantly think of Jenna Lyons [who is also fabulous]...but this barely 5 foot tall lady is just as much a part of the company's success as Ms. Jenna.   She took an opportunity to get her foot in the door by taking a gig doing the casting of models and hiring the photographers.  That was 19 years ago.  Eventually she moved over to styling, and the rest is history.

If you google Jenna's name, thousands of pictures will pop up.  Not so much with Gayle.  She prefers to lead a more private life....therefore, you're lucky to get a few pics of this stylish lady.  Which I, personally think is ashame.  Not that she prefers to lead a private life [I think that's great]...but that we don't get to see more of her outfits. :)

Orange-y red lips + pushed up sleeves = part of Gayle's signature look.

I love it.  AND she's in her 40's.  I love it even more. ;)

Shut Up! - Volume 6

Hey Team,
Welcome back to Shut Up Friday’s! Today we are talking about one of my favorite go-to pieces in my winter wardrobe…the oversized black turtleneck sweater. I find that the turtleneck can trigger a love/hate relationship with some but this girl only has love for this fabulously large comfy blanket of a top!
Since I love this turtleneck so very much (I buy 2 every winter), I thought it would be a great opportunity to do a Three-Way Friday! WOO HOOOOOOOOOO! So here we go…
The Sweater – Black Garnett Hill Oversized Sweater- currently not listed but sold each season
Turtleneck & Tulle
This little ensemble is comfy yet appropriate for drinks with the ladies, a casual Friday at the office or a hot date(some find turtlenecks to be alluringJ)
I paired it with a tulle skirt but tucked in the front to give some shape and added black boots and socks to keep the look simple since the shapes are both oversized. And then I added the camo coat and out the window goes simplicity!

The Goods:
Skirt – Old H&M
Boots – Dolce Vita
Black on Black
This second look is a lot of black, but friends those pants you are looking at are Lululemon work out pants, oh yes they are! So yes this outfit could take you out on the town, but it can also take you to the gym or maybe to your couch! The oversized sweater pairs nicely with these pants since they are cropped and a tighter silhouette. Since the sweater is so boxy, balancing proportions is important so you don’t look like you are being swallowed!
The Goods:
Pants – Lululemon
Pumps – Coach
Vest – Old Intermix

JUMPING for Turtlenecks
So the last outfit could maybe take you to the gym, this one is made for the gym! No, I have never worked out in this ensemble but I have ran many a errands in it. I have never had a problem mixing and matching different “types” of clothes, so why stop now!
The Goods:
Hopefully the overall take away from this post is buy a large turtleneck and embrace all the joy it will bring to your life!

baby, it's cold outside!

It's currently 12 degrees in Chicago.
Yesterday, it hit a high of 11...although with the wind chill it was something like 20 below.  Ryan and I jumped in the car so I could drop her off at school, and during our 3 minute drive, the temperature gauge on the dashboard went from 25 to 4 degrees!
It's a good stay at home and watch movie day[s]. ;)

Shut Up! - Volume 5

Hi everyone!

Sorry for the lack of posts the past few days.  Let's just say blogger + I weren't playing nice.  Uploading pictures wasn't an option, and I was a little miffed about it!

We're back on track as of today!

So, I give you Shut Up!....Sunday. :)

Take it away MKLS!

Hey Team,

Welcome back to Shut Up!

Today we are chatting denim! Denim on denim on denim! BOOM!

If you would have told me a year ago, that I would be promoting denim, let alone denim on denim…I would say YOU SHUT UP RIGHT NOW! But over the past year or so, after purchasing these boyfriend jeans, I have a better understanding of the denim obsession. The perfect pair for me are loose in the butt and thighs, almost mimicking a pair of sweat pants, woo hoo, but a bit tapered in the lower thigh and knees.

So after i became buds with the boyfriend jeans, my love affair with the denim shirt remained intact, therefore you can see this chiquita in the Canadian tuxedo below. Then you will see that I got really crazy and added a denim jacket on top…yes, another piece of denim, she has just lost her mind!

And attempting to make the outfit less barn yard, I paired the denim onesie with pointy nude heels, a colorful neck piece and a bright bag.

So team, you sporting any denim on denim or just sticking to one piece at a time?

Peace, MKLS

The Goods:
Old Gap Jacket – like circa 2000!

let's be frends......

and listen to some music together......

as with everything, things go out of 'style', only to pop back up later....retro or vintage are words that are constantly being thrown around.

Well, headphones aren't immune to this.  Growing up in the 70's, my parents were huge music lovers, so not only did we have a great stereo with tons of albums [yes, albums ;)],  but we also had a set of gigantic headphones.  I'll have to see if I can dig one of those old pics up to share.  So, my point is...they were pretty common.  Then as time went by, they got smaller......+ smaller and they turned into earbuds.....until the only way you even knew someone had them in was the white cords that trailed out from the ears. ;)

Well, they are back people.  The gigantic headphones are back.  And pretty flippin' stylish, if I do say so myself.

Meet the Frends [you thought I forgot to hit spellcheck didn't you? ;)] headphones.  They come in rose gold, gold, silver...and they even have a denim version.  Whoa.

Now, beyond the kick@ss headphones.....I want to know...what are you listening to lately?  What song[s] are you playing on repeat?

One of my current favorites is Hall of Fame by The Script +

Shut Up! - Volume 4

Hey Team,
Happy 2013!  Welcome back to this year's first edition of Shut Up Friday's!

To kick off the new year, I thought I'd start off with my favorite accessory...the bracelet!  Whether it be a watch, bangle, rope, zip tie or yarn, anything that goes around the wrist, is fine by me!  Well, handcuffs would probably be upsetting.

Anyway, I came up with 5 combo's that I have been rockin' lately.  They are all a tad different depending on my mood and amount of weight I could handle that particular day.  My general rule of thumb is to adorn myself in odd numbers and use items at all different price points and varying textures.  As you can see below I love to mix a fancy gold bracelet with a yarn friendship bracelet or a spikey bracelet with a dainty watch...mixing it up is the key to an arm that is ready to get down to get down!

arm #1: space 519(similar here), dad's vintage gucci watch, spikey black bracelet, thick/thin gold bracelets - michael kors
arm #2: thin gold bracelet - ralph lauren, masaai bracelet, gold bracelet(old), tory burch bracelet, thick beaded bracelet - whole foods
arm #3: yarn bracelets - madre y hija (cp's bracelet co!), peacock cuff - house of harlow
arm #4: peace cuff - old, thin gold bracelet - ralph lauren, shopbop bracelet - old, barney's spike bracelet - old, spikey black bracelet
arm #5: friendship bracelets, thick/thin gold bracelets - michael kors
whole collection!
