room crush

I imagine this to be in someone's beach or lake house.  Siblings or friends running in after a day out in the sunshine.  Lots of laughter.

Big old crush.  That's what I have on this room.

I realized last night in all of my excitement of introducing madre y hija, that I didn't mention when the giveaway deadline was.  Sunday night it will close, and I'll announce the winner on Monday.

And thank you to those who either left a comment, or emailed me directly....lots of lovely words and support.  :)

the new little venture + a giveaway!

Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to.....

It's a new little venture that  I've started with the help of my daughter Ryan.  We love making bracelets together...love it, and have gotten numerous compliments on them....so, we've decided to start a business...a tiny one. :)

The name:  If you know even just a bit of spanish, you'll recognize that madre y hija means mother and daughter.  I thought this was fitting for a couple of reasons.  The first is pretty obvious...as we're mother and daughter, but the second is where my mom comes into play.  You see, I have this pretty amazing mother...who is this fiery woman who came to the United States from Mexico in her mid-20's...with the determination to do something, become someone, contribute something.  I would have to say that she's done a wonderful job of accomplishing all of that...and she continues to do so everyday.  Growing up, I remember her always being very crafty, and even as an adult, she and I have worked on numerous projects together.  In fact, she's made me some pretty cool bracelets herself.

So in a way, madre y hija is symbolic of both my mother and I.....and now me and Ryan .  Which is pretty cool.

The logo:  I had this image in my mind of what I wanted the logo to look like.  I mocked something up and then shared it with my dear friend Matt, who perfected it for me.  A huge thank you to him. :)

The bracelets:  They are all handmade, and no two are exactly alike.  We are in constant search of new color combinations and new beads, etc.

How do you make one yours?:  I'm in the process of setting up a shop on Etsy, but in the meantime, you are welcome to email me at: cherylpisha@gmail.com.  I'll let you know once we're officially up and running on Etsy.

Pricing: Simple...one for $6...or two for $10.

To kick-off the start of madre y hija, I'm doing a giveaway of two bracelets.

Here's what you need to do in order to enter:

1.  Become a follower through Google Friend Connect (choose to follow publicly so I can see you!) :)

2. Get a friend to become a follower through Google Friend Connect.

3. Tweet about the giveaway:  @cherylpisha

For each entry leave a separate comment.

I'd love to hear what you think.  Fingers crossed that people like what they see and want a little piece of madre y hija.

Thankfully, my team makes me laugh......on a very regular basis.  I am beyond grateful for them during days like today.

Everyone deserves fantastic work peeps, they make the work portion of the day more bearable ;)

Happy Monday everyone!

I saw this quote by Dr. Seuss and loved it.  In this world where everyone wants to fit in and be like everyone else, I thought it was a lovely sentiment.  Be true to yourself!

snippety doo-dah.....

I need a haircut. Badly.

It's officially been 3 months since my last one.  Some days I love that it's gotten so long...and others I wish for a nice new clean bob.  Decisions, decisions. ;)

I loved this quick little video featuring Emily Weiss and her hair stylist...check it out.....

Now if I could only get my hair stylist to meet me in the park to cut my hair, I'd be all set. ;)  This video actually makes me want my hair razor cut again....I did that years ago and loved it.

let's take this outside....

It's getting warmer outside...and staying that way on a consistent basis....and what does that mean?  It means you want to enjoy that weather for as long as you can, instead of heading inside. :)

Outdoor spaces.....who doesn't love a great outdoor area to lounge/hang out in?  We have a great (albeit small) back covered porch which has yet to live up to its full potential.  I'd love to make it an extension of our indoor space and really start using it.

What makes an outdoor space livable?  In my mind it needs to include some type of rug, some plants, some accessories (pillows, a throw, etc)...........

Here are some that I love..

and how about this one....belonging to Diane Von Furstenberg......pretty amazing.

Who has a great outdoor space?

let's take a bike ride

I love taking bike rides.  So many of my memories from growing up involve me on a bike.  I do have to admit that I was a late bloomer in terms of learning how to ride a two-wheeler.  Almost to the point of ridiculousness......and when I learned how to ride a ten-speed, I may or may not have come up our driveway (which had a little hill) and lost control and gone straight into our evergreen tree.  oops ;)

Anyway, I will randomly see pictures of people on their bikes in NYC, Paris, etc and always love that they are in their everyday clothes.  For some reason when I became an adult the bike ride became more of an exercise tool vs. just a sweet little ride through town.......so it only seemed logical to wear clothes that you'd exercise in.

This spring/summer I vow to change my outlook on that.  I'd like to do more bike rides simply for the enjoyment of being out and exploring our town.  We are lucky in that we live in a town that still actually has a downtown area with great little shops, restaurants, etc.  Ryan's ballet school is even downtown.  Easy little bike rides.

I am smiling just thinking about them.

What about you guys?  Love bike rides?

Happy Friday everyone. :)

my milkshake.......

Toasted marshmallow + vanilla ice cream + milk + vanilla = heavenly milkshake......

You must try this.  Stat.

8-10 large marshmallows
3 large scoops vanilla ice cream or a heaping 1-cup of vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place marshmallows on  skewer and toast until slightly charred over a gas flame.  If you don’t have skewers or a gas range, you can toast the marshmallows on a sheet tray in the broiler for 2 or 3 minutes.  Keep an eye on the marshmallows as they’re in the oven.  Place on a plate to cool slightly.

In a blender mix together ice cream, milk, vanilla extract and toasted marshmallows.  Save one or two toasted marshmallows to top the milkshake(s).  Blend well.

For a thinner milkshake add more milk.  If you’d like it a bit thicker… add more ice cream.   Pour into glasses and top with toasted marshmallows.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

I'm back from vacation!

The alarm clock this morning was a bit brutal, I must admit.  I tried (and I think did a fairly decent job) to unplug for the week that I was off......minimal texting, no checking of work email, clearly no blog posting... ;)

A few highlights from my week:

  • Never underestimate how nice a vacation at home is.  No, it's not lying on the beach...but there is something so nice about being in your own space and having no agenda (or at least a minimal agenda).
  • A slumber party with three 9 year old girls is loud.  I mean LOUD.
  • Saw The Hunger Games and loved it.  I don't know that I would've appreciated it as much had I not read the book, but then again I wouldn't have known what I was missing. ;)
  • Read The Help.  Yes, I realize I'm about 2 years behind on that.  Really enjoyed it and wonder what I'll think of the movie (which I feel I can now see since I've read the book...I'm weird like that).
  • Spent a beautiful afternoon at the zoo....just the 3 of us.  It was sunny and just warm enough outside that we were perfectly comfortable.  I've been to many a zoo, and yet Lincoln Park Zoo remains #1 in my heart. The giraffes and apes are my favorite.  I could watch them all day. :)
  • My little girl is growing up...and it's kind of freaking me out.
  • Saw Friends with Kids...I love Maya Rudolph.  I want to be friends with her.  For serious.
  • We spent two nights at a hotel in Chicago and played tourists....visiting The Art Institute of Chicago and standing in line at Garretts for popcorn.  My mouth is watering just typing this.
  • Every stitch of laundry in my house in clean.  Every. Single. Piece.  :)

And, I leave you with a fantastic little pig..........who has the ability to blare your music..........

here piggy piggy

I'm happy to be back, and have some fun posts and a new series or two to unveil soon.
