NYC recap

I'm back from NYC!

We had a fun time, but I came back more exhausted than before I left.  A relaxing trip it was not! I woke up Friday morning, looked in the mirror and thought to myself, "well, it can't get much worse than this....."............until I woke up Saturday morning and saw myself.  YIKES!  I swear, if someone had knocked on the door and I opened it, they would've sworn I had just spent a good 2-3 hours in a makeup chair getting ready for Halloween.........walking zombie...that's the look I was sporting all over NYC. ;)

Regardless of being tired, it was indeed a fun time.  I have a special place in my heart for NYC.  There is a different energy there. Each time I come back from a trip there, my love deepens for that city.

A few highlights from the trip:

We attended a SmartWool event at the  EMS store in Soho.  We met some really great people..both from SmartWool and from ZQ Merino, and had a fun time learning all about their new apparel line.  I wish I had taken pictures! (bad blogger, bad!)

Bryant Park + the New York Public Library.  Despite my various visits to New York, I had never made it here.  Walking into the library, I knew I was in for something special....and it did not disappoint.  It was breathtaking.  A book nerd by nature, it was honestly hands down one of the best things about our trip.  It took 10 years to build this fantastic building, and you can see why in all of the intricate details.  If I lived anywhere near this place, I would be there often....just soaking it all in.

Bryant Park, where the library is situated is also the home to NYFW...which, as you well know, I'm also a bit of a nerd about.  It was a lovely day, despite being a little overcast (mother nature gearing up for Sandy, I suppose), and I was happy to imagine all of the chaos that ensues during fashion week.

Central Park is a magical place.  This place amidst the frenetic energy of the city that is just simple and peaceful.  We've wandered through most of the park during our various visits, but The Mall is still my favorite.  Maybe because of the perfect arch the trees make over the walkway, or how the benches that line either side are always full of life in the various people that occupy them.  I can't help but smile when I walk down that path. :)

The Highline.  If you've not been here, then you must go.  It's an elevated public park that runs through 3 neighborhoods....the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea, and Hell's Kitchen/Clinton.  We spent the majority of our last morning there, stumbling upon great art along the path, and seeing local residents/families enjoy Halloween activities that were being held.  We also enjoyed a delicious lunch from the Taco Truck, which has a permanent location on the Highline. Yum!!

Here are some pictures I took on our trip!

ahhh, I can breathe again

Hi there.

The past few weeks (months really) have been beyond stressful at work.....(so much going on, and seemingly never enough hours in the day to make it all happen).  I have a full set of luggage under my eyes to prove it. ;)

Brett + I leave for a long weekend trip to NYC early tomorrow celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary.  I cannot wait to board that plane, break out my little stack of magazines and start our weekend together.  We've been like passing ships in the night lately...barely having time to talk (outside of the normal 'you're picking  Ryan up from here....her lunch is all packed', etc), it will be fun to hang out and explore new neighborhoods in NYC....I even got a suggestion from a fellow blogger on a little restaurant in the West Village. :)

I'll be sure to take lots of pictures to share with you early next week.

See ya!

country living....

If I came into an inordinant amount of money, I would purchase this entire piece of property.

It's amazing.  And it looks like just the place you could gather all of the important people in your life (family + friends) and have a wonderful time.

I hope you've all had a great week....somehow I woke up this morning and it was Friday (insane).

a little Monday eye candy

Happy Monday!

Just a quick little post with a pic of one of my fashion favorites....Taylor Tomasi Hill from a few weeks ago at Fashion Week in Paris...oh la la! ;)

I managed to pull off a quick photoshoot at lunch today with someone you'll soon be seeing on '40 is the new 30' on a regular 1st official contributor!  Pretty exciting stuff.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

happy day michelle!

A big birthday hug/kiss/shoutout to my best friend Michelle!

The amount of stories I have with this woman is crazy.  We met when we pledged our sorority together way back when, and have continued this beautiful friendship together over the years.  She is strong and smart and so incredibly kind.  She is the godmother to my daughter and is completely adored by her.

So many words come to mind when I think of her (and our friendship):  a confidant, a wonderful devil's advocate (which everyone needs, whether they know it or not), a great mother, high elbows!, an eye full of silly string, the list goes on and on.....

Bottom line, she is the type of person who makes your life better for having known her. :)

Happy day my friend, I love you!

red, white + blue

I've been MIA, I know.

Life seems to be getting in the way of my love of this little blog lately.  I've been feeling overwhelmed.  I even made a monumental move on my part and cancelled an upcoming party at our place.  I didn't want to, but I knew it was the party or my sanity....and my sanity won out.  ;)

As for the's such a simple outfit, but is so chic.  This is a great example of accessories taking an outfit to the next level.

Happy Tuesday people.
